Tesla has successfully reached a settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Walter Huang. Huang, an Apple engineer, tragically lost his life when his Model X SUV collided with a highway barrier in 2018 while the Autopilot feature was engaged. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) previously investigated the incident, concluding that Tesla's driver assistance systems contributed to the crash, alongside potential driver distraction and ongoing road construction at the site. The settlement comes just as jury selection and trial proceedings were to commence on Monday. Tesla has moved to keep the specific terms of the settlement confidential.

President Joe Biden unveiled a fresh initiative to address student loan debt on Monday. If the plan moves forward, borrowers will see up to $20,000 in unpaid interest on their federal student loans forgiven. Under this proposed rule, some low and middle-income individuals could have their entire accrued interest wiped out. Additionally, the plan offers debt forgiveness for those who have been in repayment for 20 years or longer on undergraduate loans or attended institutions with questionable value.

Binance's new CEO Richard Teng has stated that the cryptocurrency exchange is moving beyond its previous cultural challenges, following the payment of a $4.3 billion fine to settle charges brought by the Justice Department. The DOJ accused Binance of adopting a "move first, ask forgiveness later" strategy. Following his guilty plea to charges last year, former CEO Changpeng Zhao resigned from his position. Teng conveyed to CNBC on Tuesday that "during the early growth stages... Binance operated differently," but assured that the company has now entered a phase of regulatory compliance and is striving towards sustainable practices.
5. Low spirits

Spirit Airlines announced on Monday its decision to delay the delivery of new aircraft and to furlough approximately 260 pilots in a bid to improve liquidity. The deferral of Airbus aircraft deliveries is projected to bolster the airline's liquidity by around $340 million over the next two years. The planned pilot furloughs will commence in September, as stated by the airline. This move by Spirit aims to reassure investors of its capability to enhance liquidity, especially in light of the grounding of many of its Airbus planes due to a recall of Pratt & Whitney engines.
