AccelStepper Library - Need a limit switch full-stop

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't expect answers so soon.
Regarding the crash comments and hard limits, understood. I have hard limits in place, and the limit switch is only for positioning use. My question with stop() isn't that I want to avoid crashes (though I do) but just that my limit switch only has so much travel. I am fine with the motor overrunning by a small number of steps as long as it doesn't damage the switch by going too far. I guess the correct question to ask would be: how can I calculate the number of steps stop may overrun?
I am assuming that accelstepper uses a typical "bang-coast-bang" acceleration curve where it accelerates at the maximum value and then coasts (or stops). In that case I have no problem calculating the number of over-running steps and should be good to go. If not, it'd be great if someone could comment on how accelstepper calculates the acceleration curves of the motor.
MorganS, I am not using the run() and runto() commands, but actually the move() and moveto() commands (so move to absolute position or move relative # of steps). For the limit switch, my current plan is to tell the motor to move a huge number of steps, and when the switch is hit go into an ISR which uses stop() to stop the motor. In this case, my limit switch is not my zero position and can move, so i can't approximate the number of steps between zero and the limit switch.
TL:DR - Does accelstepper always use maximum acceleration when moving (bang-coast-bang curve)? If not, what curve does it use and how can I use it to calculate the potential number of over-run steps? I am using move() and moveto() for positioning and an ISR with stop() for soft-limits.
