Hydraulic Press Purchase Advice

This seems like a pretty basic question but a search of the archives showed surprisingly little. My apologies in advance if this has been hammered to death in the past.

I need to buy my first hydraulic press to be used occasionally for such tasks as pressing the pins in and out of my knurling tools, press fits of shaft and bearings, etc. Most of what I work on is relatively small so that I can hand carry the parts around the shop---we are not talking heavy equipment repair. I was supposing that a 12 ton muight do the job.

Bench top or floor model would be possible. New or used would be OK. I would actually prefer used American of good quality. The number of offerings is boggling. Any advice before I plunk 2 to four c-notes? Would rather not figure out after the purchase what to look for in a press.

Denis
