The labor shortage crisis in Taiwan has led to a significant manpower shortfall in the manufacturing industry. SEYI Machinery (4533TT), a world-renowned stamping press maker, is acutely aware of the challenges in cultivating industry talent. Despite the current downturn in manufacturing, SEYI has continued to collaborate with the "Taiwan Society for Technology of Plasticity" and the "Forging and Roll Forming Engineering Research Center" (ERC) at National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) to co-organize the "SEYI Cup" Servo Press Stamping Process Design and CAE Simulation-Based Analytics Competition. The competition aims to pool industry resources to nurture talent in the metal forming and pressing sector. The final round and award presentation of the competition were held today (10/20) during the "iMT Taiwan - International Metal Technology of Taiwan" exhibition at Hall 2 of Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. The 21 teams included university contingents from National Chung Hsing University, National Chung-Yi University of Technology, and NKUST, along with 5 teams composed of industry experts. Team CAPOO, led by Yi-Hsiang Huang of NKUST, was declared the winner. SEYI Machinery Continues Hosting "SEYI Cup" to Nurture Industry Talent and Promote an Inclusive Society Adapting to Industry Trends and Putting Theory into Practice Climate change is now a global priority. Countries worldwide have committed to achieving "Net Zero Carbon Emissions" by 2050. This goal has spurred revolutionary advances in automotive manufacturing, including electric vehicles and lightweight chassis design. Lightweight materials such as high tensile-strength steel panels, carbon fiber, and aluminum alloys are increasingly used in structural safety components. Taiwanese automotive part manufacturers leverage their expertise in high-mix, low-volume production and flexible manufacturing to compete internationally. They are also actively investing in automated manufacturing equipment like servo presses and exploring new markets. Smart manufacturing technology is under continuous development, emphasizing modularity and intelligence. By adding value to products, the industry maintains its competitive edge and sustainability. This year’s "SEYI Cup" challenged participants to produce an S-shaped automotive cross-beam using a 980 MPa high-strength steel plate. Using the stamping press mode on the SEYI SD2-200 servo press, teams utilized curve control points, upper and lower dead centers, stroke speed, and form characteristics to design the punch motion. Subsequently, they engaged in servo press process design and CAE simulation-based analytics to reduce the number of forming processes and produce high-quality stampings. The competition aims to identify students with potential in the field, continuing to nurture talent for the stamping industry sustainably. Claire Kuo, Chairman of SEYI Machinery, stated: "Taiwan's manufacturing industry already has a complete supply chain and ecosystem. However, the low birthrate and generational talent gap have led to a labor shortage crisis. SEYI is committed to talent cultivation and has organized the "SEYI Cup" Stamping Competition to discover and hone young students' potential and interests, cultivating technical talents for the industry. We also partner with social welfare organizations to support technical vocational education in remote areas, inspiring children's talents and competencies through exploring aptitudes and interests. In the future, SEYI will continue contributing to Taiwan’s metal forming industry, fulfilling our corporate responsibility by nurturing diverse talent." Enabling Low-Carbon Production with Servo Presses On the day, Joseph Liu, Executive Vice President of SEYI, discussed "Net Zero and Servo Press Technology." The servo press is a high-performance, energy-efficient, emission-reducing, green stamping machine designed to be smarter, greener, and more efficient. This technology has wide applications across various stamping processes and industries. The direct-drive architecture, servo press-specific motors, low-RPM high-torque motors, and regenerative power system integration enable the effective reuse of energy. Electrical load levelization modulates changes in load during stamping and punch acceleration/deceleration. Keeping the factory's power demand stable helps industry customers achieve low-carbon production. Steven Lee, Vice President of SEYI, noted that trends in green energy and electric vehicles suggest a promising future for transitioning traditional manufacturing to high-end manufacturing, with a growing demand for low-carbon processes. SEYI Machinery is a global leader in servo press equipment. Medium and large SEYI servo presses have been adopted and praised by leading auto part makers in the US, Europe, and Japan. SEYI's servo press products have obtained CE certification from TÜV Rheinland and recognition at the Taiwan Excellence Awards. In the future, SEYI aims to provide forward-looking and sustainable servo smart manufacturing solutions to help customers transition to a net-zero future with low-carbon and smart manufacturing.
