"Proprietary" Connectors
"Proprietary" Connectors
Several comments, mostly disparaging, have been made about Juiced Bikes using "proprietary connectors." One poster suggested that this was done to keep owners from purchasing parts elsewhere. I've already shown pictures of the XT-60 connectors that are used by Juiced. Apparently, that wasn't the specific connector that the commenter was referring to.
It seems he was remarking on the Higo connectors. These are not proprietary; you can buy them from any retailer that stocks them. In fact, any connector that has the correct number of pins and is rated for the appropriate current will suffice. Juiced opts for Higo connectors primarily because they offer superior waterproofing. However, you don't necessarily have to use the same ones Juiced uses if you want to make modifications.
I am open to criticism of Juiced Bikes, provided it is fact-based. Spreading misinformation is not only dishonest but also does a disservice to the forum community. While I'm not pointing fingers, those responsible know who they are.
*Edited to add: I personally favor Anderson PowerPoles and use them in various applications, as does Grin Technologies. However, they are not waterproof, making Higo connectors a better choice for external connections.
